Self Titled Demo

This demo was recorded as a show-reel for various record company people who had shown interest in Dane's music. Dane recorded the demo at Ugly World over 3 days - a mighty short time frame for 11 tracks from scratch.

The objective was to make Dane sound edgy and as though a complete rock band had recorded the songs. This was achieved effectively for the purpose of the demo.

Sunlight

Type: EP (5 tracks)

Date: November 2004

Elisha's Sunlight EP required 5 tracks produced to commercial standard, high quality design of all CD artwork (delivered to printer's specification), design of Elisha's website and printed promotional material. Drum tracks had been recorded at another studio and due to differing formats required editing at Ugly World. Mixing and in-house mastering was completed by mid October 2004. Packaging design and all promotional material, including website, was complete by the November 27 deadline. Ugly World was also enlisted to engineer Elisha's performance at the launch of Sunlight.

Confusing to be Honest

Type: EP (4 tracks)

Date: November/December 2006

Jim Flin recorded Confusing to be Honest across 2 sessions at Ugly World. The objective was clear: capture the songs as they are, and add keyboards without diminishing the core acoustic nature of the songs. For this, the Estey bellow organ and Hammond organ were used in conjunction with piano.

Alphabet Body Magic

Date: July 2006

Magic Learning Lab's Alphabet Body Magic contains a CD-ROM with computer-based learning activities, an audio CD, instructions and paper-based activity sheets.

Ugly World Studios was enlisted to co-write, produce and engineer the song, Alphabet Body Magic, on which the package is based. Requirements included that the song must be animated, containing countless literal cues in the music referring to what was being sung.

Ugly World Studios also designed the Magic Learning Lab website, and advised the client on how best to communicate with their target audience within the framework of their website.

Inside the Serpent Skin

Type: Album (9 tracks)

Date: February 2005

Manzuma's (somewhat) debut album was recorded entirely at Ugly World. Manzuma projects always have a particularly long time frame due to the engineer being part of the band. Inside The Serpent Skin is far from an exception. This album was 2 years in the making (including recording, mixing, in-house mastering and artwork production.

Hollows

Type: Album (11 tracks)

Date: Due December 2007

Manzuma's (somewhat) second album was recorded entirely at Ugly World. Hollows was recorded over a 6 month period beginning in October 2005. The project included writing (often on-the-fly while recording in the same session), performing and recording; mixing and in-house mastering; photography; graphic design of the cover and associated propaganda; website updates.

Drawing a Cat with the Aid of Two Coins

Type: EP (4 tracks)

Date: August 2005

Marlinchen's first EP recording was completed in one eight-hour session at Ugly World. Each of Marlinchen's instruments (bass, guitar, keys, violin) were recorded separately. Budget constraints required that the EP be finalised within the one session.

Feathers

Type: Single (2 tracks)

Marlinchen's 2nd foray into the studio was to record the single Feathers, which was to be released on 7" vinyl. The mixing and in-house mastering had to consider the final format. Both tracks were produced across 2 sessions at Ugly World Studios.

Shanahan & Steel

Type: Album (24 tracks)

Date: August 2005

Shanahan & Steel's album was recorded over 4 sessions at Ugly World. The album contains numerous sketches interspersed with throw-backs and IDs. The sketches were recorded live, with several takes of each. The takes were then compiled and cut to contain the most energetic parts of each sketch. Sound effects were then created by Ugly World before final sequencing and timing was performed under instruction from the clients.

Templemount

Type: EP: (5 tracks)

Date: October 2006

Templemount tracked and mixed their first EP at Scream Ahead Studios, Eagle Farm. Keyboards were tracked at Ugly World and mixed with the original 2-track bounces. The EP was mastered in-house at Ugly World.

The Witches Dance

Type: Single (2 tracks)

Date: November 2005

The Witches Dance single was a spin-off from early sessions on the album, Pagan Fire. The song was co-written and produced by Tim Fairless and the artist. The single also required a remix of the lead track. This was produced entirely by Ugly World over 2 days in November 2005.

Pagan Fire

Type: Album (11 tracks)

Julie Walton's Pagan Fire album took shape at Ugly World between October 2005 and August 2006. The recording of the album was done progressively as the material was finalised and Julie's vision for the album developed. In most cases, the artist came to the studio with lyrics, melody and production ideas. From there the music was written and arranged and the songs recorded. The masters and artwork were delivered on time so that delivery of the final product was received by the October 6 launch date.
