Obligation

More attention is often given to the brand of compressor or the dollar value of a plug-in collection than the abilities of the person operating them. "I just drained all my savings on these Waves plugins 'cause they'll make me sound like [insert famous producer here]."

I find gear lists a bit of a bore, really - and the thing I remember most vividly about any studio I've been in (as Rick O'Neil reminded me in one of his insightful Audio Technology Magazine articles) is how comfy the couch was. I've sat on some very nice couches and often paid no attention to what converters were in the rack.

Don't get me wrong - I like to look at, talk about, buy and enjoy exploring all the things with lights and sliders and knobs and switches - I just know that from where you're likely sitting the following three columns aren't much fun. Anyway. Here goes; a selective list of stuff I use...
